Plywood Certificates, Test Reports and Market Rules: What to Ask For and How to Check It

Reference hub · Last reviewed 19 October 2026

A plywood buyer deals with four kinds of document: certificates that show a body checked the mill or the product, test reports that show a sample met a limit, rules that decide whether goods may be sold and papers that tie a lot to all three. This page maps them by destination market and links to the detail page for each.

Reading order for a first import

  1. Name the destination rule. The US needs a certificate and a label, the EU needs a test result against a legal limit and a Declaration of Performance, and Japan needs a JAS grade and mark.
  2. Check the certificate. Match name, site, product scope and dates, then look the certificate up. The verification page lists where.
  3. Read the test report. Method, unit, sample ID and lot link matter more than the word “pass”. See the test report page and the test methods comparison.
  4. Test your lot. A third party inspection draws samples from the stack. The inspection post covers the instruction.
  5. Keep the file. One folder per shipment with the certificate, the label photo, the packing list, the invoice and the report.

Audits, laboratories and shift checks

Three more pages cover the evidence behind a certificate. The laboratory page shows how to read an accreditation scope. The social audit page compares amfori BSCI and SMETA. The mill testing page lists the checks a mill runs at each station. For specific tests and rules, see bending strength, AQL defect classes, CE marking and production control and the Indian BIS rule.

What certificates do not prove

A certificate does not prove your lot passed. It does not prove the legality of the timber, which the EUDR checklist and the Lacey Act post cover. It does not prove where the veneer came from, which matters for duty and is covered in the origin documentation post. Rules on this page are not legal advice. Confirm them with your customs broker or compliance adviser.

PlywoodViet is a matching service. It does not issue or hold certificates and does not verify them for you. Ask the mill for the original, and confirm it with the issuer named on it.

Frequently asked questions

Which documents should a buyer collect for a first container?

The mill's certificate for the destination market, a test report on the production lot, a label or stamp photo from the lot, the packing list with lot numbers and the supplier declaration. Add a third party inspection of the lot if the order is large or the mill is new.

Does PlywoodViet certify mills?

No. PlywoodViet is a matching service. It does not issue or hold certificates and does not verify them. Ask the mill for the original and check it with the issuer.

Where do I start if I sell to several markets?

Write the destination for each lot before production. A panel built for one rule does not carry another rule's papers. The market table on this page shows the document for each.
